Introduction
The River Center offers custom tours to be tailored for each request from individuals, teachers, families or groups of varying sizes. The River Center provides an array of possibilities for exploring NE California and SE Oregon.
The River Center visitor center makes a great place to begin exploring the Pit River Watershed. Class visits from schools or by families cover many subjects including science, geology, biology, art, English, history, and agriculture to list a few possibilities.
Information for self guided tours is available at the River Center. The River Center arranges custom tours that provide for a wide range or combination of guides, meals, lodging and transportation for individuals or various sized groups.
- One custom River Center tour example is a guided family camping trip to explore Wilderness areas via horseback with Dutch Oven cooking for dinner.
- Another River Center tour example is a guided walk around the Modoc National Wildlife Refuge to observe Sandhill Cranes with a lunch break at an Alturas restaurant.
- A third River Center tour example is a group assembling at the River Center, viewing the geology display and then carpooling for a day trip to a dozen interesting geology sites with an interpreter who describes the geological formations and a sack lunch brought by each participant...
